The Family Command Center

We’re all set for the new school year (which starts in less than 2 weeks!) with our new “Family Command Center,” as I’ve been calling it. I clipped the kids’ chore charts to a large dry erase board with magnetic clips (only 25 cents in the clearance aisle at Staples), which double as secure holders for phone messages, permission slips, and other important papers. Our family rules are posted top center, and on either side I write the day’s activities and menu (no more “what’s for dinner?” questions a half dozen times a day). I also posted our family schedule so everybody knows what they’re supposed to be doing, and when.

If only the rest of my house were so organized….it seems to get worse every day. But between the heat, and the Olympics, I accomplish very little these days, except I did get the basement cleared out for the window people to start work next week. Now that was a job…

The drought conditions here haven’t improved. I’ve never seen our lawn so parched, and this morning, when I went out to hang a load of laundry on the clothesline, the grass was so crispy and dry that it hurt my bare feet – I had to go back in for flip flops. The kids are bored and frustrated because they want to play outside, but it’s so hot and dusty that they come back in after only a few minutes. This morning, I sent them to the basement to play because I didn’t want them laying around in front of the TV all day, and when I went downstairs for more laundry, DJ greeted me at the bottom of the stairs in this outfit.

This is one of the perils of growing up with two sisters, as is this:

Someday, I’m going to have the BEST time showing these pictures to all the girls DJ brings home! (As a result, he may stop bringing girls home, but it will be fun while it lasts!)

I love you command center!

Thats how the drought was last year in Texas. Livestock dying in the fields and all. It was heart breaking. On our way back to Ohio we got rained on in Tennessee and I actually wanted to cry at the difference.

I Love it! I want to try to do something very similar. Between my husbands ministry and being a Houston fire fighter; and our two boys it’s hard to keep up with everything. Thank you for all the tips that you share.
And I will be praying for you during the dry times you guys are facing. Exactly like the last comment; we went through it here in Texas last year, but the Lord has been very gracious to us this year with rain. God bless you!

Hi,
I love the Do Your Chores List…How did you do it?
Was it something you created through MS Word yourself.
Great Ideas as always. Thanks Heather. God Bless You.
