Around the Yard-Part 2

We have a rather large yard, about one and a half acres in all. Our back yard faces west, and extends down the hill, to the row of poplar trees:

My husband fenced off this small portion of the yard, for the children to play in. They have their sandbox and swingset here, and we have our barbeque grill on the little patio next to the deck:

Our back yard then stretches to the south, all the way to the tree line behind the far building. The two large outbuildings are such a blessing! My husband has a fully functioning shop, complete with a vehicle hoist, in the building closest to the house. He’s able to do all of our vehicle repairs and maintenance, which saves a lot of money! The far building is used mainly for storage. We store a motorcycle, camper trailer, and other large items for family members, and we also use the building for our yearly garage sales. In fact, we’re having one on Saturday!

The pair of trees by my clothesline are fruit trees. One is a sour cherry:

And the other is a plum:

We pick and preserve as much of the fruit as we can. The mulberries on the tree in our front yard are ripe now, so yesterday I made a one-crust pie with some fresh mulberries, and some frozen sour cherries from last year’s crop. It was so delicious!

On the far south end of the yard, we have our vegetable garden and pumpkin patch:

My husband had the gardens nicely tilled and ready to plant, but sadly, because of our cold, ridiculously wet spring, there is nothing growing in them but weeds!

Cantaloupe will have to do for now! :)

Wow! I live in 1000 square foot apt with my kids. We have a pebble filled alley to play in. I’m the one who really want what you have. It looks so wonderful.

Your garden is great – love the fruit trees!! It is a perfect size – not to big that it is a full time job to look after (although I imagine the mowing takes a while), but big enough to do what ever you want. Can’t wait to see photos of your vege patch when you can get it planted!!

Hi Heather,
Thanks for the pictures of your garden. It’s so beautiful.
William is doing much better today. He is wheezy in his chest, and still a little clogged in the nose, but is more back to his normal self. I’m exhausted but relieved!
I’ll let you know if he goes downhill again, as a “prayer post” would be lovely. :) Thanks for thinking of us. It’s a lovely feeling knowing people care on the other side of the world!
