Meet Pumpkin

This is our new cat, Pumpkin.

Our house felt sad and empty without Lucie, so we decided that we needed to get another cat right away. We adopted Pumpkin through our local Humane Society, in partnership with PetSmart.

We saw Pumpkin’s picture on the Humane Society web site, and loved his beautiful eyes and striped tail. His profile said that we could visit him at the PetSmart Adoption Center. As soon as we met him, we knew he was the cat for us. We could tell that he liked us too, because he hopped in the basket of our stroller and lay down, as if to say, “OK. Let’s go home!”

Pumpkin is just a huge loverboy. He’s sweet, affectionate, and very tolerant of the kids. In fact, he’s so affectionate that I couldn’t get any sleep last night, because he snuggled as close to me as possible, and tucked his head under my chin. He was as hot as a furnace, and he snores!

My only complaint about Pumpkin is that he’s shedding like crazy! I’m hoping that this is just temporary, winter coat shedding. We’ve brushed him several times, but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. Does anyone know how to keep shedding under control?

If you’re looking for a new, furry family member, definitely check with your local Humane Society first. For us, the $70 adoption fee covered Pumpkin’s neuter surgery, vaccinations, feline leukemia test, de-worming, and grooming. He was also fitted with a tracking microchip, in case he gets lost. In addition, we were given a bag of Hills Science Diet cat food, a blanket, and cat toys.

Because our adoption was in partnership with PetSmart, they gave us an Animal Planet cat care DVD, and $40 dollars in coupons. PetSmart has helped find homes for over 3 million cats and dogs. Visit their Adoption Center to find an animal in need of a loving home.

Pumpkin is a good friend, and he’s helped ease our sadness. We’re happy that he’s part of our family now.
